James Rickert has helped found and build different agricultural enterprises throughout his career. James was responsible for transitioning the Prather Ranch to Certified Organic status in the early 2000’s and was one of the early pioneers in this area. James has worked at every level in the Prather Ranch operation over the years from managing ranches to working on the harvest floor.
James has co-founded the nation’s first and only Certified Organic strawberry plant nursery and this business continues to grow and thrive today. James has assisted Burnsini Vineyards with a transaction and then helped develop the initial business plan and manage harvest for the new ownership group.
In 2018, James was hired as the Farm Director for Belcampo Farms, a vertically integrated meat company based in the Shasta Valley. James initially focused efforts on streamlining the operation and significantly reducing COGS for the company. Hay production was increased significantly, cost of production was reduced and the quality and consistency of the grass-fed beef was increased significantly. James then developed the Procurement Department and developed independent supply chains in both national and international locations. In this work, he’s created end to end supply chains for organic, pasture raised chicken production in Northern California and organic pasture-raised turkey production in Iowa. In addition to this, James has spent time in Uruguay and developed an export program for a grass-fed beef producer and oversaw the transition to organic status.
